Al and Cherie Berns had a dream and a passion. In 1956 they bought an acre of land and a small greenhouse in Middletown. Coming from parents who also grew and sold plants, Al and Cherie began cultivating the next generation of plants and children. Open only 6 weeks in the spring, the beginnings were humble. As the children and the business grew, more greenhouses were built. The original greenhouse was expanded, becoming a full service garden center open all year.

We are now comprised of four divisions: Garden Center, Landscape, Personal Gardner and Gift Shop. The day to day operations of each division are run by family members and experienced staff members.

Production greenhouses have increased in size and now total over 120,000 square feet. It's quite a site to look out over 3 acres of greenhouses full of colorful plants in bloom. Each season, new plant introductions and old favorites are grown and shipped fresh to the garden center to add color to your home landscape.

In 1982, the landscaping division was started at the request of customers looking for installation and maintenance of plants, trees and shrubs at their homes. Four talented landscape designers along with professional installation and maintenance teams deliver service that keeps your landscape fresh and beautiful.

We have a tree and shrub farm on both sidea of I-75 between Middletown and Monroe. These items are nurtured there for 1 to 3 years until mature and ready for planting or delivery at your home.

In 1996, the new garden center was built at the corner of Cincinnati-Dayton and Greentree Road. We have been recognized as one of the Top 100 destination garden centers across the nation. Our covered walkways overflowing with a colorful collection of annuals, perennials and acres of trees and shrubs. We’ll gladly assist you in picking the perfect plants to create your own backyard retreat. Our family and valued employees take great pride in the company and the community we serve.
